3 Team-Building Tools That Keep Us Healthy

Computer and Stuff

At INCM, we’re committed to investing in the leaders who minister to children and families. We want to see God inspire you to great leadership—personally, professionally, and pastorally. One of the foundational truths we’ve learned over the past 30 years of training children’s and family ministry leaders is also the most simple: Great Leaders Build Strong Teams.

Over the last few weeks, our staff team at INCM has adopted a rallying cry to build a strong team. Here’s our top three picks for team building:

1. Slack — https://slack.com/
Slack is a platform to host all your team communication. Slack is an all encompassing tool that replaces email, chat, and texting within the team. We’re just getting started with Slack, but we think it’s the bee’s knees. Slack is available on all your devices, is searchable, and FREE. Bonus.

2. Five Dysfunctions of a Team — http://www.tablegroup.com/books/dysfunctions
This book is standard reading for any team that wants to grow. It was written by Patrick Lencioni and it outlines the root causes of politics and dysfunction on the teams where you work, and the keys to overcoming them. You will not find a better resource to build your team. Additionally, there’s an online team assessment you can purchase that will pinpoint your team’s areas to work on and suggest action steps. Super Bonus.

3. Face time
We’re talking about face time, not FaceTime or a conference call (which turn out like this most of the time). As leaders, we get busy. And when we get busy, we spend less time with our team and more time of projects. Great leaders prioritize people over projects. We’ve found that a meal together or a cup of coffee is one of the best tools for team building that you have available to you.
