What the Advanced Certificate in Children’s Ministry Is Really Like

Advanced Certificate in Children's Ministry Program

During the CM Leaders conference back in October, in a classroom down the hall from where INCM staff and volunteers were setting up, a cohort of 20 people met for the Advanced Certificate Program (ACP) — an offering from INCM and Bethel Seminary that trains and equips kidmin.

In that group were children’s ministry leaders, a youth ministry leader, and Bethel Seminary professors. Some of them were local and drove in to the conference, but most were from all across the U.S. — from New Mexico to Minnesota to Florida.

I remember seeing ACP participants exiting the room during the lunch break with looks that I hadn’t seen since my days at college. They were clearly talking about important things with deep implications.

Then, the next day, I got to ask some questions from some of the participants.

Here’s what they said:

A lot of conferences that I’ve been to, you might go into a workshop and that workshop might cover one small, tiny little subject of something in children’s ministry that you want to understand. But when you join the certificate program, you are able to go so much deeper. No only deeper in what you’re doing in ministry, but you’re able to work with pastors and directors from all over to understand how you can do things differently or see a different picture of how you can do children’s ministry different.
—Nicole R. (Fairfield Baptist Church)

My children’s pastor at our church has done some of the certificates before, and so I was saying “I want to be a part of what you’re learning and taking that deeper.” I think it’s helped us not just take away a bunch of little things but a big picture of how we can do family ministry together.
—Lars C. (Canyon View Church of Christ)

I have learned so much through readings and doing online discussions and just being able to bounce ideas off of other people who live all over the country. And it’s practical application. During the conference, the speakers enhance what we learn in our certificate program. Anybody that is thinking that they want to improve any part of their ministry or just improve themselves, this is a great way to do it. It’s about building our spiritual growth and enhancing our relationship with Christ first before we can pour it out to others.
—Heather T. (Calvary Baptist Church)

I have some new, amazing friends! We text each other. We ask each other for prayer. We have them challenge us to dig into our souls.
—Jill V. (Sun Hills Church)

The next cohort for the Advanced Certificate in Children’s Ministry begins at CPC16.

The cost for the ACP is $899 and includes complimentary registrations to CPC16, CM Leaders 2016, and CPC17 — a value of $880!

If you’re interested in learning more about the ACP, you can visit the Advanced Certificate page or sign up for one or both of our upcoming webinars with Professor Deb Moncauskas of Bethel Seminary, who oversees the Advanced Certificate Program.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us and we’ll get back to you right away.

Keep fighting the good fight,

Ian

Your volunteers are busy. Many of them are working full or part-time, taking care of their children. Attending PTA meetings, mom’s groups, or classes. Carting kids to soccer, football, or dance. Or are just trying to manage their household. Whether moms or dads, empty nesters, or college-aged kids, volunteers have a lot on their plate. AND they want to serve in your ministry. YAY! 4 Tips for Including Men in Your Children’s Ministry

Like many children’s ministers, I joined the ranks by being an over-eager volunteer turned employee. When I was in the basement volunteering, only 1% of our volunteers were men. I didn’t have a male Sunday School teacher until I was 16 years old. It seems an unspoken rule that children’s ministry leaders are female.
