Relational Children’s Ministry – Get This Book

Relational Children's Ministry -SampleWhen the team at INCM heard one of our breakout speakers (from our partners at Awana), Dan Lovaglia, was writing a book – we were ecstatic. How many children’s ministry focused books are coming out from major publishers these days?

Answer: not many

So this book, Relational Children’s Ministry, is a big deal and we want to share why. Too often, the focus of children’s ministry shifts toward executing programs over building relationships with kids. And unfortunately, it’s not always clear that the work a person does with kids is really making a lasting difference. In fact, research over the past decade has revealed an alarming lack of long-term spiritual growth as children progress through student ministries into adulthood.

Relational Children’s Ministry equips children’s ministry leaders with practical tools to disrupt the status-quo approach to discipleship with children, realigning their ministries for greater long-term impact.

In the book, Dan teaches kidmin leaders to:

  • Learn how to relate to kids and families by putting five discipleship invitations modeled by Jesus into practice.
  • Explore practical approaches to realign their children’s ministry for a new trajectory by hitting three “reset buttons” to ensure long-term discipleship is embedded.
  • Encounter examples of disruptive disciple-makers in action and learn key principles that can be translated into their ministry context.
  • Children’s ministry leaders and kid-influencers can make a lasting difference by becoming a disciple-making community that shapes kids into lifelong, committed followers of Jesus Christ.

I love what Jim Burns, president of HomeWord, says about the book:

“Today, while the children’s ministry movement is strong, the need to help children and families commit their lives to God as his disciples has never been greater. This book is the most useful book I have seen on this topic, combining practical suggestions for doing excellent children’s ministry with helpful suggestions on how to be a healthy leader.”

A sample chapter of Relational Children’s Ministry is found in Volume 5 of Dispatch alongside $100 of books and ministry tools to impact your ministry and infuse your children’s ministry with fresh ideas. Make sure to get your box!

4 Tips for Including Men in Your Children’s Ministry

Like many children’s ministers, I joined the ranks by being an over-eager volunteer turned employee. When I was in the basement volunteering, only 1% of our volunteers were men. I didn’t have a male Sunday School teacher until I was 16 years old. It seems an unspoken rule that children’s ministry leaders are female.
