The other day, I was driving home from the store with my infant son. He had been an absolute dream the whole trip. So much so, I thought: “Hey, he’s been so awesome, I bet we can just get home and I feed him THERE instead of in the car. This is a great idea.”
It WAS a great idea… until I came upon the light at the train tracks and there was a freight train. The longest freight train in the history of freight trains. I mean, I live in the suburbs of Chicago, and the caboose of this thing must have still been in Iowa. As all you mommas have already guess, Little Man started getting tuned up… and then the all out wail started.
I don’t know how to describe that feeling of sitting on the road I needed to be driving on to get home, and being stuck because of the train as long as the continental United States. However, I can describe what it was like when the train passed, and the train “keeper-offer” thing lifted. *(Matt and I both couldn’t recall what the official term for this contraption is… if you know, please share in the comments 😉 ).
I took a deep breath, and could finally see the route home again. Little man was still crying, but at least I was moving. At least we were getting closer to where we needed to go.
From conversations I’ve been having with family ministry leaders lately, this experience is pretty similar to where they are right now. They can see the vision of where they need to go. They’re bought in to getting “home.” They already know that encouraging parents and families to disciple their children is important. But, getting parents and leadership excited about a family ministry can be challenging.
Have you been hitting roadblocks… Maybe even a freight train? Do you wonder how you can get parents to get involved (even with their busy schedules)?
If you answered “yes,” I want to encourage you to join me and my friend, Brenda Noel, next Wednesday at 12:00 pm CST for a free webinar where she will lead us through how to overcome some barriers to a thriving family ministry.
Brenda Noel has a love for the Lord, children and their families. Brenda brings extensive experience after working with children for over 23 years. She is the new managing editor of RoseKidz. Formerly a director of Children’s Ministry at Rolling Hills Covenant Church, she oversaw hundreds of volunteers and staff, ministering to thousands of children every week. In addition, she brings years of experience as supervisor of child development in the Redondo Beach Unified School District to the RoseKidz team. Brenda holds degrees in both Child Development and Integrated Psychology from Biola University. Most importantly, she has a heart to equip leaders with practical ways they can move closer to where they believe God is leading them and their ministries to be.
From leadership concerns, to parents’ busy schedules, find out how to overcome the 5 common roadblocks that leaders face when growing a successful family ministry in their church. Find out practical “next steps” you can take today to create a thriving ministry that equips parents and children to grow in their walk with God.
