Meet Bridge – A Tween-Focused Conference

Tween Bridge 2015

Bridge is a brand new conference, and it’s all about tweens.

Tweens — the kids in our ministries who are at the center of critical intersections emotionally, physically, socially, but especially spiritually. In the church, children’s and youth ministry leaders are the ones on either side of this critical intersection.

How do we help them fully embrace their faith?

But, more importantly, who is responsible in the church for discipling and nurturing them?

The vision of Bridge is to bring together those leaders on either side of a critical intersection in the life of a child (the tween stage) for the purpose of inspiring, challenging, and equipping them to work together in shepherding children not only through their ministries, but through a pivotal time in the discipleship journey of a young person.

Bridge provides an environment that empowers leaders to commit to bridging the gap between children’s and youth ministry in their church. For that reason, Bridge is an event created for both children’s ministry leaders and youth ministry leaders to attend and begin a conversation between those leaders about how to better reach this important — and sometimes neglected — age group in the church.

To get Bridge’s first conference started on the right foot, we’ve invited some well-known experts in reaching and understanding tweens — including cultural analyst, author of 47 books, and founder of The Barna Group, George Barna; author, children’s and family ministry leader, and executive director at INCM, Matt Guevara; author, speaker, and founder of Secret Keeper Girl & Pure Freedom, Dannah Gresh; professor at Southwestern Seminary and youth ministry leader, Dr. Richard Ross; and creator, writer, and sales and marketing manager for Scarlet City Studios, Tim Cleary.

Keynote sessions include:

  • Tweens and Today’s Culture
  • Intergenerational Discipleship
  • Ownership — Who Is Responsible for Tweens?
  • and more!

4 Tips to Prepare Your Volunteers for Sunday Children’s Ministry

Your volunteers are busy. Many of them are working full or part-time, taking care of their children. Attending PTA meetings, mom’s groups, or classes. Carting kids to soccer, football, or dance. Or are just trying to manage their household. Whether moms or dads, empty nesters, or college-aged kids, volunteers have a lot on their plate. AND they want to serve in your ministry. YAY! Before you jump to managing your volunteers’ lives, consider first how you can help them to lead this coming Sunday morning. Really simply, what does it take to prepare your volunteers for Sunday morning children’s ministry?

4 Tips for Including Men in Your Children’s Ministry

Like many children’s ministers, I joined the ranks by being an over-eager volunteer turned employee. When I was in the basement volunteering, only 1% of our volunteers were men. I didn’t have a male Sunday School teacher until I was 16 years old. It seems an unspoken rule that children’s ministry leaders are female.

Your ministry is amazing! You are passionate and dedicated, and you pour out your enthusiasm week after week, month after month, year after year! And yet, sometimes it can feel like you’re the only one who is totally sold out and bought into the mission of reaching kids for Jesus.
