5 Things about CM Leaders Conference I’m Most Excited For

Children’s ministry peeps, we love events. And this week INCM has an event I’m insanely excited for: CM Leaders. Here’s five things that make my pulse pound as if I were climbing Pike’s Peak.

ONE. Worship.

I know what it’s like to spend most Sundays in the children’s ministry environment and to become engrained in a routine of not taking part in a weekend worship service. Over time, children’s ministry leaders become numb to this reality. I’ve invited my good friend from Christ Community Church’s Aurora Campus, Jimmy Reedy, to lead us in worship for CM Leaders. We’ve devoted almost an hour of the one-day experience to worshipping God together. I could not be more thrilled.

TWO. Amy Dolan. Eric Hamp. Sam Luce. David Laflin.

It is absolutely mind-blowing to have three of the preeminent children’s and family ministry leaders join us for this event to break down the key leadership arts: Develop, Lead, and Disciple. Their cumulative efforts will be unique because Amy Dolan, Eric Hamp, and Sam Luce are not only sharing their insights but they will be sharing their learnings from one another at the closing session and answering your questions. Facilitating the day together is no easy task, so it’s a privilege to have David Laflin with us for CM Leaders as our emcee. Amazingness.

THREE. Community Christian | Yellow Box.

It’s awesome that we get to have this event equipping local church leaders within a local church. The team at Community Christian | Yellow Box are fantastic and they have just done a complete renovation and building project. In fact, we will be some of the first people to see the finished building. Come on!

FOUR. Networking.

The more people you know, the more resources you have. I’m looking forward to networking with leaders over breaks and lunch. We’ve structured the day to allow for lots of opportunities so everyone can decompress and learn from one another. So much yes.

FIVE. The INCM Team.

Now, this one is a little selfish. Whether it’s a sports team or a ministry team, there’s something special about the first goal a team is able to reach together. CM Leaders is the first event that our team at INCM will get to do together. I cannot wait to see the team in action and provide something amazing for those who minister to children.

Your volunteers are busy. Many of them are working full or part-time, taking care of their children. Attending PTA meetings, mom’s groups, or classes. Carting kids to soccer, football, or dance. Or are just trying to manage their household. Whether moms or dads, empty nesters, or college-aged kids, volunteers have a lot on their plate. AND they want to serve in your ministry. YAY! Before you jump to managing your volunteers’ lives, consider first how you can help them to lead this coming Sunday morning. Really simply, what does it take to prepare your volunteers for Sunday morning children’s ministry?

4 Tips for Including Men in Your Children’s Ministry

Like many children’s ministers, I joined the ranks by being an over-eager volunteer turned employee. When I was in the basement volunteering, only 1% of our volunteers were men. I didn’t have a male Sunday School teacher until I was 16 years old. It seems an unspoken rule that children’s ministry leaders are female.

Your ministry is amazing! You are passionate and dedicated, and you pour out your enthusiasm week after week, month after month, year after year! And yet, sometimes it can feel like you’re the only one who is totally sold out and bought into the mission of reaching kids for Jesus.
