Let’s get this straight: you already know a lot about kids. You love kids and there is no better expert for the children in your ministry context than you. But with all that is changing and shifting in our world, here’s three things you may have missed about kids (but you need to know).
- Kids easily adapt to technology but do not possess the inherent knowledge about how to use it wisely. It always amazes me when my children can figure out an app before me. Technology comes so easily to kids; however cyber savviness does not equate to digital wisdom and the best ways to use these technologies to be safe and smart. You can help them!
- Kids have big dreams to change the world. I cannot wait to introduce you to a child that is changing the world. We will spend some time learning from her at CPC East. Our team met with this young lady and her family last week and she shared these inspiring words: “Kids have good ideas, and you know what? We don’t no all the reasons why it won’t work, we just know what we want to do. I want to be the change, I want to make a difference, I want to help people.” You have to meet this kid—she’s a hero.
- Kids are playing video games at school. One of my favorite research organizations, the Joan Ganz Cooney Center released a report recently of 694 K–8 teachers and found that 74% of those surveyed use digital games in the classroom. The study revealed that framing learning in terms of gameplay helps get through blocks for kids who grow up and are convinced that they cannot learn or will fail when they try.
