3 Children’s Ministry Leaders You Need to Meet

Coffee Shop Meeting

Learning from new voices is critical to expanding the limits of our imagination. I love to read books on subjects I have no background in or listening to TED talks from experts in unique fields. One of the most amazing pieces of INCM’s story is that throughout the past 35 years, our organization has introduced the field of children’s and family ministry to new voices. You’ll see more posts like this in the weeks ahead, but here’s 3 #kidmin you need to meet:

1. Tim Cleary

Tim was captivated by C.S. Lewis’s Narnia and he has become passionate about his work with 2ndcity Studios, a Christian Game Studio based in Auckland, New Zealand. 2ndcity Studios was founded on the premise of bringing Biblical Literacy to children in New Zealand, and their flagship game, The Aetherlight : Chronicles of the Resistance (a Bible-based virtual world for pre-teens) is in production and will be available in 2015. Aetherlight looks incredible! Tim is committed to breaking new ground for this generation, showing the way to a digital wardrobe that will lead to their adventure.

2. Keith Ferrin

Keith Ferrin is an author, speaker, blogger and storyteller. His passion is helping people not just believe and read the Bible – but enjoy it at the same time. His teaching and word-for-word presentations of Scripture have been shared on three continents to thousands of people of all ages over the last two decades. Keith and his family live just outside Seattle and he is a raving Seahawks fan. He also believes that ice cream and coffee are proof of a benevolent God.

3. Frank and Jessica Bealer

Ok, so Frank and Jessica really count as two – but they go together:) Frank and Jessica have three children. Frank is the Family Pastor at Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC and he oversees staff, volunteers, and curriculum development for thirteen locations. Frank has an effusive love for helping others see their full potential. Jessica has been leading children’s ministry for 14 years. Currently, she oversees standards, systems, and atmosphere for the children’s ministry of Elevation Church (plus she’s a published children’s author). Together, Frank and Jessica are the founders of Lead e3 (a must read ministry blog).

Bonus: If you’re coming to #CPC15, you will have the chance to meet all of these amazing leaders!

4 Tips to Prepare Your Volunteers for Sunday Children’s Ministry

Your volunteers are busy. Many of them are working full or part-time, taking care of their children. Attending PTA meetings, mom’s groups, or classes. Carting kids to soccer, football, or dance. Or are just trying to manage their household. Whether moms or dads, empty nesters, or college-aged kids, volunteers have a lot on their plate. AND they want to serve in your ministry. YAY! Before you jump to managing your volunteers’ lives, consider first how you can help them to lead this coming Sunday morning. Really simply, what does it take to prepare your volunteers for Sunday morning children’s ministry?

4 Tips for Including Men in Your Children’s Ministry

Like many children’s ministers, I joined the ranks by being an over-eager volunteer turned employee. When I was in the basement volunteering, only 1% of our volunteers were men. I didn’t have a male Sunday School teacher until I was 16 years old. It seems an unspoken rule that children’s ministry leaders are female.

Your ministry is amazing! You are passionate and dedicated, and you pour out your enthusiasm week after week, month after month, year after year! And yet, sometimes it can feel like you’re the only one who is totally sold out and bought into the mission of reaching kids for Jesus.
